AP Music Theory – Private One-on-One Tutoring

In today’s increasingly competitive academic environment, students (and their parents) are looking for musical enrichment and accreditation that can impart a decided advantage when preparing for general admission to colleges and universities in Canada and the United States. The AP Theory Examination allows music students well-acquainted with the RCM theory program to build on their knowledge of basic theory and harmony. The most exciting aspects of the testing AP Theory testing are the additional aural components which include pitch-and- rhythmic training, aural analysis, and sight-singing.

This program is not intended only for students wishing to pursue music at the post-secondary school level. On the contrary, AP Music Theory accreditation can serve as a powerful enhancement to a student’s overall academic profile and post-secondary school candidacy, while at the same time providing “polish” on the musical knowledge they have gained through their RCM theory studies. Talk to your school guidance counsellor to see if AP Music Theory would be a good fit for you.

I have a limited number of spaces available for weekly online private tutoring in AP Music Theory. The prerequisite is the successful completion of Level 8 Theory, Level 9 Harmony, and Level 10 Harmony & Counterpoint (RCM). While most students would benefit from a Sept-to-May lesson schedule, others might find a Jan-to-May schedule sufficient. I can meet with you briefly online to evaluate your current skills before you decide which route to follow.

AP Music Theory offers students an elite learning experience that is both challenging and stimulating – a “finishing school” of sorts, that helps students tie together their broad musical knowledge.
